2nd Phase to Start at Siedel Farms Subdivision
Development is growing, albeit slowly
The Siedel Farms subdivision, which started with 40 cluster homes in 2006, is expected to get a little bigger this year -- but just a little.
City Council last week approved the plat for the second phase, which will include seven single-family homes.
"Probably because of the economy, they're only moving ahead with seven so far," Planning Secretary Carol Oprea said.
Original plans for the subdivision, located off Westwood Drive, west of Prospect Road, were approved for 92 clusters and 48 single-family homes.
"They have overall approval to put all those homes in," Oprea said.
Developer is Parkview Homes.
Strongsville is on track to beat last year's home construction pace. By mid-May, the city had already issued 31 permits for new single-family homes.
In 2011, builders took out 61 permits; in 2010, it was 54.
Pulte Homes is doing some building in Schneider Reserve, off Whitney Road, and at Avery Walden, the upscale development off Webster Road.
There has been construction by Drees Homes Bakers Creek, behind Michaud's, and there are two new subdivisions off Prospect Road -- Breckenridge and Castlewood.
Hickory Branch, a new subdivision off Meadowood, started last year.
Council President Mike Daymut said there is also building going on at Bexley Place at Albion and West 130th Street.
The construction includes both upscale homes, like at Avery Walden, and more affordable houses.
"We've got a good cross-section -- clusters, condos, new homes," Daymut said.
In addition, construction is expected to start on the first home at Cedar Estates, the luxury subdivision off Prospect Road.
And Westwood Farms is expected to add about 20 homes. The new phase was originally approved in 2008 with about 40 homes planned, but stalled.
