5 Things to Know This Week

Tree lighting, holiday closings and new business

1. The city's holiday tree lighting is set for 5:30 to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 25. Mayor Tom Perciak will illuminate the Winter Wonderland on the City Commons. There will also be a visit from Santa, live reindeer, ice carving and horse-drawn sleigh rides.

2. City Hall and the Ehrnfelt Recreation Center will be closed Thursday for Thanksgiving. The rec center will reopen for normal hours Friday, 5 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Want to work off some holiday calories? All group exercise and spin classes will be free on Friday.

3. All branches of the Cuyahoga County District Library will close at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday and remain closed Thanksgiving Day. Hours on Friday are 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

4. The new buyer of the Strongsville Golf property will discuss its plans in Strngsville at tonight's City Council meeting.

5. You might want to avoid the retail areas on Royalton Road -- or rush to them, depending on your outlook -- around midnight Thanksgiving night. Several stores, including Kohl's, Target, Macy's and Best Buy are opening then. Walmart will be open at 10 p.m.

And, of course, traffic around those areas and Westfield SouthPark will be heavy all day on Black Friday.
