A Replacement for Giant Eagle: Here's What it Won't Be

Company reps aren't saying, but they did narrow it down

Strongsville Patch asked readers in December what they'd like to see go into the Giant Eagle store -- if, as proposed, the company moves out of its Westfield SouthPark space and builds a new Market District store on Pearl Road.

The top two vote-getters: Trader Joe's  and Whole Foods Market.

Don't look for either.

Not surprisingly, Giant Eagle representatives said at a recent meeting with city officials that the replacement, when picked, will not be a grocery store.

Company officials said several tenants are already interested in the 70,000-square-foot store.

Their names are not being released yet.

But it's a common practice for retailers to refrain from leasing their old space to a competitor.

Giant Eagle is asking voters to rezone part of the Strongsville Golf and Honey Hut property to make way for a 110,000-square-foot Market District store.

In the Strongsville Patch poll, the next-highest vote-getters were DSW (Designer Shoe Warehouse), Toys R Us and IKEA

Also mentioned were Sam Ash music store or a Guitar Center, a Gander MountainNordstrom RackContainer StorePetSmartCheesecake FactoryMichael's and "a GIANT Honey Hut."

Several good choices - Could you also add a Barnes & Noble Book Store to those choices?

Even though people are using the Internet, IPads, Readers, and IPhones for reading purposes, the Barnes & Noble stores at Fairlawn and at Crocker Park are always busy. There's a variety of products for sale in addition to books, and there are also coffee shops in the stores for taking a break, reading, or socializing.
