Alva G. Stone Chaired Brook Park Tax Review Board

A member of the West Tech Alumni Association Hall of Fame

 

Alva Grant Stone, an independent sales representative, owned ANS Sales and chaired the Brook Park Tax Review Board for more than 20 years.

The Strongsville resident died Nov. 9, 2010, at age 80.

He graduated from West Technical High School in 1949 and was inducted into the West Tech Alumni Association Hall of Fame in 2005.

He attended night school classes at Baldwin-Wallace College, where he received a bachelor's degree in business administration in 1980.

Stone, who had served as an U.S. Air Force topographer, volunteered with United Seamen's Service to welcome merchant sailors from foreign ships to Cleveland.

He belonged to North Star Masonic Lodge 638, Lake Erie Consistory and Al Koran Shrine. He also was a member of Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, Valley Vagabonds walking group and the Lakewood West Shore Unit of the National Association of Parliamentarians.

Survivors include his wife, Nancy; children, Kathleen Mitchell, Jeannette Sarpola, Audrey Peters, Beverly Ronkos and Lisa Michaels; and 12 grandchildren.

Services were  held at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 6151 Smith Road, Brook Park, OH 44142, where Stone was a founding member.

Memorial donations may be made to the church or to Lutheran Home at Concord Reserve, 2116 Dover Center Road, Westlake, OH 44145.

Arrangements were by Craciun Funeral Home of Middleburg Heights.
