Future of Palate Restaurant Still Uncertain

Eatery opened to headlines, closed quietly five months later

Inside Palate Restaurant and Lounge, the tables are set for dinner service.

But it's been months since any hungry patrons have ordered from the eclectic menu, and chef and owner Jeff Jarrett has been working at another restaurant since June 18.

A sign on the window of the restaurant, 12214 Pearl Rd., says the business is temporarily closed for reorganization.

But the last time the Palate posted anything on its Facebook page was May 23.

Jarrett told Scene Magazine in June that he left Palate because he wasn't getting the support he needed from investors.

He is now the executive chef at AMP 150 at the Cleveland Airport Marriott Hotel

Jarrett could not be reached for comment.

The city's Building Department had no updates on the site this week. The department got a phone call a few weeks ago from another restaurant looking at the site, but no paperwork has come in.

Palate opened to local fanfare and rave reviews Dec. 28 as Jarrett, a well-reviewed chef who worked at several prominent area eateries, including Lockkeepers and Dante, brought his creative cuisine to the 60-seat restaurant tucked away in a small shopping plaza.

The restaurant was open less than six months.
