Get Go is Coming, and Here's Where It's Going

Giant Eagle seeks approval to build a gas station, convenience store, small cafe in Strongsville

Giant Eagle, which has promised to bring a GetGo to Strongsville, is seeking to build the gas station at the corner of Drake and Pearl roads.

The GetGo would be situated on the site of a former service station there, but would also include vacant property to the north and east of the existing building.

The entire parcel would be 2.61 acres, said Todd Waldo, a Giant Eagle representative.

"The city has been absent a quality fuel station for many years, and we hope to fill that gap," Waldo said.

City Council introduced legislation Tuesday to rezone the two parcels -- a total of 1.87 acres -- from General Business to Motorist Services to accommodate the Get Go gas pumps and convenience store.

Waldo said the Strongsville GetGo would have eight gas pumps and would include a 5,600-square-foot store with a "kitchen" concept, featuring a 20-seat cafe with deli foods, in addition to a convenience store.

Giant Eagle officials said last year they planned to bring a GetGo to Strongsville, but did not yet have a site.

The corner of Drake and Pearl, 17511 Pearl Rd., has long been speculated to be the location, but no deal had been announced until this week.

The fallback, officials said, was an outlot in front of the new Market District store under construction on Pearl Road north of Drake.

City Council referred the rezoning to the Planning Commission for review and a recommendation.

Waldo declined to speculate about when the GetGo could open, saying the project is in its early stages.

The Strongsville station, he said, will be similar to an existing GetGo in Broadview Heights and a new one opening in Lakewood.

Excellent!
We need a gas station at this end of town so we don't have to run up the hill to BP.
Still can't figure out why people at the other end are so opposed to this kind of place going in.

That's a great place for it since it was formerly a gas station and is in a good location.

I'm happy that there will be a station at this end of town, but if I were Marathon at 82 & Howe, I would be pretty upset over your comment "the city has been absent a quality fuel station for a number of years.let alone gas, Marathon has been our go-to station for all our car repairs. They are fair priced, have timeliness & are always courteous.

I think it was the Giant Eagle representative making that statement, not someone from the Patch or the city. But you are right - they should have said "in this part of town".

Cassifur you have to remember that it was a giant eagle representative that made that comment..... so in his eyes the only place to shop is giant eagle and the only place to ever buy gas is getgo

Maybe the city now will add the much needed right turn lane there on Drake for those wanting to go north on Pearl. Should have been done when Pearl was widened. But instead traffic backs up there.
