Here's What People Want to See at the Mall

Readers have plenty of suggestions for new owners of Westfield SouthPark

SouthPark mall should bring in a bookstore, a Pottery Barn and a tea room, Strongsville Patch readers suggest.

We invited readers Thursday to send a message to Starwood Capital Group, which is buying seven properties from Westfield for $1.15 billion.

There has been no official word yet on any changes that might be on the way, so we asked readers for ideas.

"Get rid of those kiosk carts in the middle of the mall. They look junky, and especially at the Holidays, when the Sales People jump out at you to harass you to stop. It is a carnival-like atmosphere," Renee wrote.

Other proposals: Add an Urban Outfitters, Trader Joe's, computer store, Arhaus, Crate & Barrel, West Elm, an arcade, Bebe, a Nike store and White House Black Market.

"Make it safe," one reader added.

A bookstore, by the way, was the No. 1 suggestion, with five people asking for one.

Reader Tom disagreed with Renee on the kiosks.

"Those small kiosk carts are mostly small business owners who are trying to make a living just like everyone else also each and every kiosk employs a few additional people to run them not to mention I think they keep the bigger stores prices in check PLUS they are a great place to find last minute gifts for those of us who like to do our christmas shopping the day before christmas (yes I called it christmas)."

I would like Talbot's back and how about a J.Jill. Janie and Jack childrens store would be nice also. Make the mall more like Beachwood and I would shop more at Southpark and not at Beachwood. It has become tacky and will end up like Parmatown if the new owners aren't careful. The crime rate at the mall has already gone up since Parmatown is basically closed.

I have to a Trader Joes at the old Ethan Allen store would be a great improvement. Or take over Giant Eagle with a Whole Foods!

Unless the plans have changed, I think the Ethan Allen store is going to become the new place for Dynamic Fitness (currently on Pearl Rd.). And Giant Eagle will not let a competitor take over the old building. BUT Earth Fare will be coming to the old Borders Books building! (I prefer Whole Foods but am happy a healthy option grocer will be in Strongsville.)
