Mayor Promises 'Surprise' at Corner of Drake and Pearl

Old service station site will be put to use again

There are plans in the works to revitalize the site of a former service station at the corner of Pearl and Drake roads, Mayor Tom Perciak said.

Perciak, delivering his State of the City address Tuesday, said he couldn't yet get into specifics, but said the city will soon have "some great news" to share.

"You'll be surprised," he told the crowd.

His remarks came during a question-and-answer session, when someone in the audience asked about cleaning up the site of the former gas station, which has sat idle for some time.

It is often difficult to build on a gas station site because of the environmental clean-up costs.

"I think that is going to take care of itself," Perciak said.

That's a good one too.
But then again, they'd have to add "fuel fumed" flavor with no extra charge for the side effects.

Now tom, that establishment has already moved into our town - at the corner of Whitney and Pearl!

It looks like they have been doing lots of cleanup in that large wooded area just north of the old gas station. Is that an indication of other things to come?

Well, its been over 3 months since this article was written.
Anyone know when that eyesore will be replaced?
The weeds are growing taller. Whoever owns that property should at least be maintaining that corner - UNSIGHTLY!
Its starting to look like the corner at the north end where that catering place is/was, where Sheetz originally wanted to build. Are we going after twin corners at both ends? I can't understand how the residents up there would rather look at a corner that is so rundown instead of a Sheetz. I guess they are use to seeing the junky appearance and don't even realize how bad it looks. I'm hoping Get-Go replaces the gas station at Drake/Pearl. Please hurry up, whatever is going there!!!

I'm trying to see who actually owns that gas station at the corner of Drake and Pearl. On one search, it looks like the City of Strongsville owns it. I saw this a couple of months ago and was waiting to see the transfer be posted, but never saw it. Can anyone clear up my confusion? Looks like the county records show 2 different owners in 2 different searches - maybe one source hasn't been updated yet?
Side note - I never knew that all this time that Heinen's owned that large parcel almost right next to the gas station - looks like since 1977. Interesting.

Good questions, Lyn. I'll try to find out, but no one's been talking about what's going on there. It was rumored to be the Get Go site, but I also heard the previous owner was planning to reopen a gas station there. All just speculation at this point.

Thanks!
And since it looks like the city owns it, then for what?

Those weeds are getting even taller right next to the building. It's really an eyesore there on the corner. How long are we suppose to look at that dump?

Seems the city should be forcing the owner to do something about that place.

And if the city IS the owner, then shame on them for letting that corner look like it does.
