New 'Guilt-Free' Bakery Set to Open this Week
Pure DeLite will offer cupcakes, coffee drinks and breakfast items
A new bakery that features cupcakes for health-conscious diners is hoping to open this week, maybe as early as Wednesday.
Owner Rachel Hough said her recipes include organic and all-natural ingredients.
The cupcakes end up with half the calories, fat and sugar of a traditional cupcake.
"It's all coming together," Hough said on Friday. "We still just have a few more inspections. We're hoping we can be open by Wednesday."
The shop uses organic ingredients like whole wheat flour, pure cane sugar, butter (but just a small amount), egg whites, and local and organic fruits and vegetables.
The menu includes well over 100 flavors. Most can be made vegan, gluten-free or reduced fat.
In fact, Hough actually makes special recipes for customers with allergies.
"We have people who bring in special ingredients, like a certain type of butter or baking soda, for us to use in their cupcakes," Hough said. "We try to accommodate people's needs."
Pure DeLite's website says its vanilla cupcakes contain 179 calories and 5.8 grams of fat, compared with a competitor's 485 calories and 24.4 grams of fat.
Hough said the shop will have organic coffee drinks, iced coffee, teas and natural-flavored waters. In the winter, it will have homemade hot chocolate. In the mornings, there will be biscotti and other breakfast items.
Hours will be 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday; 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday and noon to 7 p.m. on Sunday. Cupcakes on weekdays and Saturdays are available starting at 10 a.m.
Hough said she plans to have live music on the weekends.
