The owner of Master Italian Pizzeria at Bennett's Corners is seeking to expand into the former Video Express store next door to open a bar and grill.
The BarKing Bullfrog, a full-service sit-down restaurant, should be open in mid- to late June, owner Jay Bloesinger said.
"It's going to be something this area really needs," said Bloesinger, who has operated Master Pizzeria in the Rego's shopping center for two years.
The Planning Commission will consider plans Thursday for a 3,000-square-foot expansion that will include seating for about 100.
Bloesinger said the BarKing Bullfrog will serve alcohol, but will appeal to people "8 to 80," starting with free popcorn at the door and a friendly atmosphere.
He said he expects families to frequent the restaurant for dinner, with fare including burgers, pizza and wings.
There will probably be trivia games, but no pool tables or dart leagues in order to keep the family friendly nature, similar to Winking Lizard or Applebees.
Bloesinger said there is a need for that type of restaurant in the southeast part of Strongsville.
"I can't even begin to tell you the hundreds of people who have told me they can't wait for it to open," he said.
Master Italian Pizzeria, which seats about 50, will remain open. The two eateries will be attached with a walkway.
