James D. Kobak became the city's new police chief Monday, following the retirement of Charles Goss.

Kobak has been with the Strongsville Police Department 28 years, the last 11 as deputy chief.

Kobak thanked Mayor Tom Perciak and City Council for their vote of confidence, and told a crowd of police officers gathered to watch the ceremony he is happy to take on the challenge.

"I look forward to working with you to keep the city safe," he said.

Congratulations chief. But it looks like the old chief will still be running the show, but chief Kobak can at least enjoy a increase in pay.
