Police may have a suspect in an attempted robbery at American Eee-Z-Shop, 10925 Prospect Rd., last Thursday.

Detective Lt. John Janowski said John Lane II, 33, of Mentor, who was arrested in Huron County later that afternoon, will be questioned in the case.

"He's a person of interest at this point," Janowski said.

Lane was apprehended by police in Wakeman about 1:45 p.m. Thursday -- an hour after the incident here -- after a high speed chase.

He is a suspect in a string of robberies in four communities, the Morning Journal reported.

In Strongsville, a man went into the convenience store about 12:20 p.m., told the clerk he had a gun and pulled something black out of his pocket.

He went over the counter to get into the register, but then ran out the door instead when a male customer came into the store.

Wakeman police saw Lane driving a 2001 blue Honda, checked the licence plate and discovered there was a warrant for his arrest in Mentor for robbery.

Lane failed to stop and led police on a chase that reached speeds of 110 mph.

According to the Morning Journal, Lane eventually jumped out of his moving car and ran toward a wooded area, pursued by Huron County sheriff's deputies, who tackled him and ultimately subdued him with a Taser.

Deputies found cash and a knife stuffed in Lane’s socks when they searched him.

Lane is suspect in robberies of gas stations and drug stores like CVS and Walgreens in Mentor, North Olmsted and Willoughby, in addition to the Strongsville store, Wakeman Police Chief Tim Hunker told the Morning Journal. In each robbery, he stated he had a weapon, but never showed one.

Janowski said Strongsville officers are planning to question Lane about the Strongsville robbery attempt.
