Strongsville police officers took a Springfield man under their wing Tuesday night after he ran out of gas on I-71.

The man called for help about 11:15 p.m., saying he was trying to get home to Springfield, OH, but his car had stopped. A report said the man seemed confused and was headed the wrong direction on the highway.

He also told police he uses oxygen at night, but it was at home.

Officers contacted his daughter, who confirmed her father does need oxygen to sleep and is also an Alzheimer's patient.

She said she would come to get him, but she was four hours away in Miamisburg.

In the meantime, officers took turns keeping the man company at the police station. They also asked Center Towing bring the man's car there.

The daughter arrived about 4 a.m. to get her dad. Police said they would keep his car in the employee lot until the family could pick it up.
