School Bond Issue in Strongsville Passes
Margin is close enough for a recount on Issue 116
Issue 116, the bond issue for the Strongsville schools, has passed by 83 votes, according to final numbers released by the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections show.
Official results from the elections board, released Tuesday afternoon, show the issue won 11,530 to 11,447.
"We're happy -- we continue to move in a positive direction," Superintendent John Krupinski said. "I'd like to thank the community for their trust in us."
The margin is within one-half of 1 percent, which means there will be a recount.
The fate of the issue, which was ahead by 3 votes at the end of Election Day, has been up in the air until late absentee and up to 698 provisional ballots could be counted.
"I think this is something everyone's going to embrace," said Ward 3 Councilman Jim Carbone, who worked with school officials to draft and promote the plan. "This is the injection the schools and community needed."
The $81 million bond issue will pay to build a new middle school on the site of the existing Center Middle School, make improvements -- including new technology -- to Strongsville High School and make repars to elementary schools.
Krupinski said the Cuyahoga County results showed the issue passed by 109 votes. The district then added in the Lorain County votes, which cut the margin to 83.

What a joke! In this day of tight budgets we do not need a 5 million $ performing arts center. And better yet put more money into the hands of an incompetent school administration and school board. Future enrollments will be on the decline; why did they not maintain what they had. Let's have more double dipping; Eichar,Miller, etc!!!

As taxpayer you have the right/responsibility to hold the entire school system accountable for their spending of our tax dollars. Just put your real name on the question or simple standup at a board meeting and ask!

That doesn't help when it comes to a difference of opinion regarding whether it is necessary to have a $5million performing arts center for the middle school kids. So, others in the community may use it - but should that be a school expenditure? Matter of opinion - and the voters said yes.
Also, when they come to the community and ask for monies when that request is based on studies of like construction of schools throughout the state - that doesn't speak to the specifics of our district. No one ever, a business or a family, goes into a project without firm numbers - yet here we approve millions of dollars based on a guesstimate. We all know that building by the high school and at Center would entail different layout of funds. Yet when they proposed the amount needed, they didn't know where it would be built. That number was just a guesstimate. If someone wants to build a 2200 sq. ft. house, do they just go with the average of what one would cost? Certainly not! There are too many variables involved - you have the low end and the high end. One would base this on better, solid info of what you intend to actually construct.

I did some further "research"...
11,523 FOR
11,414 AGAINST
2,121 Over/Under votes
As per: http://boe.cuyahogacounty.us/pdf_boe/en-US/ElectionResults2012/Nov2012/11062012officialResultsbyPrecinctCategory.HTM
Votes in Lorain County for School Issue,
7 FOR
33 AGAINST
As per: http://www.loraincountyelections.com/2012_general_election2.htm
25,356 Total ballots cast all Strongsville precincts
As per: http://boe.cuyahogacounty.us/pdf_boe/en-US/ElectionResults2012/Nov2012/11062012officialResultsbyPrecinctTotals.HTM
So, based on above official results:
25,356 total ballots cast in Strongsville
40 ballots cast in Lorain County regarding this issue
-2,121 over/under
-298 ????????????? discrepancy - unexplained difference
______
22,977 for/against issue
Assuming the above is correct, we need to know the source of this 298 difference. I double checked my math and these are based on all final election results. But they just do not reconcile to me.
I can understand the reason for a recount - I assume they will be recounting ALL 25,356 ballots cast!!!

Or another, possibly easier way to see the difference, is:
based only on Cuyahoga County BOE final results (not including the 40 Lorain County votes):
11,523 FOR
11,414 AGAINST
2,121 Over/Under votes
_____
25,058
298 ?????? unexplained difference
______
25,356 total ballots cast for Strongsville

Debbie-
Whats with the highlighting of some words within the comments? They appear as links -but we are not inserting them. I've been trying to delete comments and rewrite when they appear.

Lyn, not sure. I'm only seeing links highlighted in blue. If you put in a website, the system automatically makes it a link. Is it highlighting other comments too?

Debbie-
Yes. My 10:31 comment above has " state " highlighted - strange, before it had the word schools highlighted. And see "Romney guy" comment, it has " school administration " highlighted.
Seems to be picking select words, and even changing which words when come back late - thought might be connecting to ads.

This is connecting to ads. I see it all time as a commenter on certain websites. It can range from brands to products to random words.

Lyn, that's really weird. When I call up the story and comments, I don't see any words highlighted. Must be a new glitch in the system. I'll let our IT people know.

Sometimes if you go into the persons comments I can see a word or words highlighted in blue. I mean by clicking on the posters name and then clicking on "comments". I just started seeing this happening.
Or maybe its just my computer!!

As I told lyn this is connecting to ads. I see it all in the comment sections of websites. Might want to notify the tech team if you don't want it happening.
