Strongsville Schools: In the future when you ask for something don't act like a spoiled brat and ask for a whole wardrobe ... just 1 outfit. Times are hard, why would you ask for so much. If you would of just asked for Center to be rebuilt then I but it would of passed with flying colors. Keep this in mind when you go to pay the $100,000+ for the next issue you waist our money on.

I voted for it and I make less than 20k a year, so don't talk about peoples incomes like you know where they are coming from. I do have 2 children in the schools and I want them in the best environment. That money would be well spent if it meant fixing up the schools that they will be at for the next 10 years.

Maybe you should consider moving out of Strongsville Cassandra, if this seems to be such a problem for you. If you really do make 20K a year, then you must not own your own property and won't be held responsible for the tax increases. It's not just pennies out of our pockets. It's a bill we'll be responsible for the next 30 years.

You're absolutely right, I shouldn't be able to choose where I live. And, there weren't a bunch of really cheap houses over the summer, they were posted on here actually. Just because someone doesn't make a lot of money, doesn't mean they can't save a good down payment for a house. It didn't even pass, so you're not responsible for anything for the next 30 years.

To simply hand a fiscally irresponsible board $46,500,000 to build a middle school without a clear set of plans and all the while supressing the fact that there was a $5,000,000 performing arts center is lunacy. Does Strongsville need a new Middle School. Absolutely!!!! Provide a plan that makes sense instead of the typical money grab and the voters will approve it.

Wait, does anyone actually know if the bond passed or not? You guys are talking like it had been defeated but when I was driving in this morning I heard on the radio that it had passed and when I checked the cuyahoga county board of elections site it says it passed (11,222 for and 11,194 against). Can one of the Patch editors clarify here? It looks like their results might not be up to date.

Brian, you're right. As of this morning, updated numbers show the bond issue is leading. I'd hesitate to say it passed because of the narrow margin. As of about 1:30 a.m., the final, unofficial count showed it was down. Nothing's official yet, though. We'll have updates as they come in.

I moved here from Berea last October, got my address changed in time for this election... glad I did! It looks like, for once, my vote will *actually* count!

Max, you must know everything. How much everyone's taxes are, how much they paid for their homes etc...Like I said earlier, there were a bunch of really cheap houses in Strongsville, like 55k, 60k, can you guess what a mortgage on a house of that price range is? They are silly cheap and in a great city, but people default.

Max, also a a homeowner. Beautful house, over 1 acre of land. Cost over $150,000. Low fixed interest rate. Same income. So, yes, it's possible.

It's not always easy, but what is? I don't intend to make such little much forever, I'm going to school at 30 to make things better. I got divorced and had to do what had to be done.

It has been the Republican agenda to objectify people as "others." You can see it even with the handling of Romney. When did we most hear about Romney was a Mormon? It was during the Republican primaries. Even if it was the repeated "Oh, the fact that he is a MORMON doesn't bother me;" it meant constantly making sure that his religion was at the front of every discussion, almost like a backhanded compliment; keeping it out there as a dog whistle because they knew that it struck a chord in the base.

But then when the national election was between Obama and Romney, the mention of his religion was rarely ever heard about again. But what you mainly saw from Republicans were these same portrayals of Obama as some sort of "other." Actually, not even a singular "other," but objectifying him as some other religion, some other nationality, some other completely different political philosophy, etc.

This is the strongest tool that the Republican party has to fight their political races and to divide the country by compartmentalizing people into these groups with varying and conflicting (and mostly fictitious) agendas.

For anybody who was spewing such vile rhetoric on sites like Patch, at family picnics or at the local pub, no matter what "greater good" that you perceived and used to justify it in your head, I think that today is a day for looking in the mirror as the whole Republican party ought to be doing right now. Yesterday, this great nation rejected that way of thinking.

it's amazing how the school levy was losing and miracles happen. they found the votes they needed to win. recount and recount again. i hope it fails

We teach are kids not to be bullies (well the good parents do) yet that's what most people on here are doing, is tearing everyone down and bullying. Luke you did exactly what she did, posted twice, Why? To be mean? What's the point. I'm not trying to be mean, I just don't understand why people are so nasty to each other for no apparent reason.

If the only people who voted against the levy were the ones who $200 will break, then the levy would have passed with flying colors. Think about it, there are very few people/families in Strongsville that are struggling to the point that $200 a year is going to keep them from eating or getting necessary medication. Those who voted against it need to quit whining about $200 breaking them. When the school system goes to crap, the value of your home will drop by much more than the $6,000 you would pay over the next “30 years”!
