Strongsville: The Good, the Bad and the Ugly
What do you like about living here? What do you hate?
A while back, Strongsville Patch had a few stories about traffic problems in town, and boy, did people have a lot to say.
To summarize, a lot of residents aren't happy with the traffic situation.
We also took a poll about crime and safety, and the overwhelming majority said they feel very safe here.
So we're wondering: What do you like best about living in Strongsville? Is it feeling safe? Good schools? Close to shopping? Maybe the sense of community?
And what do you like least? Traffic is the obvious choice, but are there other things that bug you about living here?

We love the recreation center and the Metroparks.

Strongsville is all about location location location. Close to the airport, and not that far from downtown. That aspect is fantastic.
That said, the city sold its soul a long time ago with the mall. There is no character to the town unless you consider eight lane concrete roads character. The soon to be gone Honey Hut Ice Cream and Mini Golf was a fun place for young people to go on dates and have good clean fun. You could almost characterize those businesses as quaint. They will soon be replaced by a mega food palace complete with gigantic asphalt parking lot as per the city's leaders' wishes. All in the chase for the quick buck.

Honey Hut is staying but it's moving somewhere else in the city. The fate of mini-golf is undecided.

I hate driving around seeing all these unoccupied buildings and yet we continue to
build more.

I agree with Metroparks, Rec Center, and great location. There are some very good restaurants, (Brew Kettle, Pomeroy, B Spot, La Kebob) if you want to go in a different direction than plain old chains, and plenty of fun all year round - Olympia's Wacky Wednesdays, events at the Chalet in the Winter, an excellent, active Girl Scout service unit, etc. It's nice to have good schools for my kids, but I am weary of the whining about lack of funds in light of the higher taxes that my husband and I accepted as a fact of life when we moved here 12 years ago, and had no children for many years. I actually like the Mall. They have lots of events there as well. My kids and I enjoyed the Summer Movie Clubhouse the past two years, where they have 50 cent movies one morning a week. The abundance of run-down no-tell motels is another down side to the area.

At the start I liked Strongsville but today, all I can say is "it's ok." We basically abandoned one of the largest grade schools so we could cater to the wealthiest development and give them a school. When Kinsner was built it wasn't really needed, but the people in that development have bigger more expensive houses, so they counted more. Now, the middle school isn't good enough for them. More money wasted on fancy buildings. The roads in the wealthiest developments are always kept up, smooth and new. The poorer developments get a little chuck hole fill. When construction diverted people down Saratoga, they changed speed limits to 20mph (there's no school there) but whey they were diverted down my street, the police didn't do anything. So, its ok, if you live in a wealthier development.
