Summer Plans for Strongsville Golf, Honey Hut Still Up in Air
Giant Eagle hasn't announced its timetable for property yet
Everyone knows Giant Eagle plans to build a Market District store on the site of Strongsville Golf and Honey Hut Ice Cream.
What no one seems to know is when.
It's unclear at this point whether the golf range and ice cream shop -- both largely seasonal businesses -- will be open this summer.
Nick Catanzarite, the attorney representing the Strongsville Golf property owners, said he doesn't know the answer yet.
"We should have a tentative timeline next week," Catanzarite said in an email.
Voters agreed May 6 to rezone part of the Strongsville Golf site to allow Giant Eagle to build an upscale, 110,000-square-foot supermarket there.
City Council this week delayed officially rezoning the site, though, until the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections certifies the election results.
Engineers have reportedly already started testing soil on the Pearl Road site. The company has not yet turned in plans to the city for the new store.
Honey Hut, which last week opened its Brecksville store for the season, has already found a new location in the area -- at 922 Pearl Rd. in Brunswick, the site of the former Annabella's ice cream and mini-golf.
