Thousands Show Up To Hear Mitt Romney at Pancake Breakfast in Brunswick

Roughly 3,000 people showed up for free pancakes and to listen to the presumed Republican presidential candidate say he can improve the economy.

BRUNSWICK -- The rain didn't seem to dampen the enthusiasm for presumptive Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney in Brunswick Sunday.

The Plain Dealer estimated that some of the 2,500 and 3,000 who showed up at Mapleside Farms in Brunswick for the free pancakes and to listen to the candidate speak, waited for hours in the rain.

In his first of three bus stops in Ohio Sunday, Romney compared the parting clouds to the country's economic future, according to the Washington Post.

“The sun is coming out, guys! Three-and-a-half years of dark clouds are about to part. It’s about to get a little warmer around this country, a little brighter,” Romney said, according to The New York Times blog The Caucus

Romney's wife, Ann, two of his sons and four of his 18 grandchildren attended the Father's Day event. Also joining him was Ohio Rep. Senator Rob Portman, considered a possible vice presidential candidate, according to The Washington Post.

Romney also made an appearance on the CBS television show Face the Nation Sunday and said he thought President Barack Obama's recent executive order on immigration was political. But Romney did not say whether he would appeal it, according to the Boston Globe.

For more details on the future visits by Romney to Ohio, considered a battleground state for the election, and campaign events, check out his campaign page.

For details on future visits by President Barack Obama, who visited Cleveland earlier this week, and for campaign events, check out the Ohio campaign page.

Off topic? The horror! Reader's comments lead to other reader's comments which lead to an open discussion about, well, topics. It's actually interesting to hear people's opinions, and to see how their thought processes work. If I am correct in my assumption, I think comments are also called opinions, and I think opinions convey a personal touch by the very nature of being personal comments. Perhaps, readers will suspend the reading of Patch since it will no longer be interesting reading. This "warning" of the impending "total censorship" for all Patch commenters on this thread because of a few ignorant individual’s abuses reminds me of grade school-- where one person does something inappropriate, so the entire class is punished. Censor the inappropriate, obscene, hate speech, etc. comments as an editor/moderator is inclined to do-- (and thank you for that by the way)-- and perhaps leave the rest of us commenters to converse with each other in any way we see fit, and in any direction that it may take us, or you will certainly lose your circulation base as many other media outlets have. For example, think "LA Times"-- another media dinosaur in the making. And, for the record, to express my opinion and post this comment, I used my real name, as required by Patch's "terms of use," and not some made up "penname"-- as that wily Samuel Clemons did when he adopted Mark Twain as the psuedonym he "posted" his work under.

My opinion alone.
I would urge any of you thinking of voting for Romney, to do some research on Mormonism before you cast that vote. I would also urge you to take note that a Mormons first duty over all, is to his church. His country & fellow countrymen & women, will always come second.
Facts are facts. if Romney is elected, he will have acomplished what the LDS church has wanted for a very long time, to be in control. (see The White Horse Prophecy, Joseph Smith Jr, 1843)

Be also aware, if Romney, (a Mormon High Priest) is elected, no White House decison will ever be made without him having to consult with his church, beforehand.

I would also urge any of you who want to know more about Mormonism, to peruse the following link as well. Many many thousands of ex- Mormons, dissatisfied with the religion & rituals they adhered to so faithfully, leaving their church & in many cases, shunned from their family for doing so, is a sure sign, something always has been, and still is, very wrong.

A lot of people had the same fear of JFK, thinking he would defer to the Pope on policy and decision making. JFK did a pretty good job.

I would like to believe that whatever the religion, they can personally follow their faith, but not allow it to take precedence in governing a country of so many diverse religions.

If religion is such a factor, we should only allow atheists and agnostics to run for office.

I'm not a fan of the LDS church and all their wacky unorthodox beliefs, but I'll take Mitt any day. Obama has made 2 and only 2 correct decisions while in office.

By the way our country isn't becoming socialist. All the leaders and corporations don't care about the middle class. They only care for money and power. Our current President or Mitt can't save us, because they have been corrupted like almost every other politician here. The political divide in our once great county will destroy us. Unity is the key to keeping our nation prosperous. I envy the countries that come together as one when they must fix something. We are Americans, doesn't matter what you look like, nor what religion or political mindset you may fall under. Let's stop fighting and start on the path to be a great country once again.

So you believe Obama divided our country? Our country has been divide way before anyone heard the name Obama. People are still looked down upon because they're different. We will never be what we once were if don't unify. Everyone needs to look at everything from every angle to solve our problems. Maybe if everyone was open minded we could get past the childish behavior and fix everything. That's why unity must happen. If people stopped reading into absolutely everything and simply look at what's happening around us we can save our nation. One other thing we must stop wanting to get everything for free. If you're not a veteran/military person, disabled, or retired, you should be working not relying on the tax payers for a free ride. Everyone must do their part for unity to exist.

Mormons have been saying The United States constitution will hang like a single thread, or, like a single thread, for a very long time. I'm sure in a hundred years from now, they'll be saying the same thing.

For your reading pleasure. Take note, "this people" is referring to Mormons.

Journal of Discourses Vol. 7, p. 15 Brigham Young, July 4 1854

Will the Constitution be destroyed? No: it will be held inviolate by this people; and as Joseph Smith said, The time will come when the destiny of the nation will hang upon a single thread. At that critical juncture, this people will step forth and save it from the threatened destruction. It will be so.

Journal of Discourses, Vol. 2, p. 182, Brigham Young, February 18, 1855

Brethren and sisters, our friends wish to know our feelings towards the Government. I answer, they are first-rate, and we will prove it too, as you will see if you only live long enough, for that we shall live to prove it is certain; and when the Constitution of the United States hangs, as it were, upon a single thread, they will have to call for the Mormon Elders to save it from utter destruction; and they will step forth and do it.

The difference being Kennedy was upfront about his Catholicism, & also made it clear he was a strong believer in the separation of church & state..

Romney on the other hand, has never been upfront or talked about his Mormonism, as it is forbidden for him to do so. You'll also never hear Romney say he believes in the separation of church & state, as his churches goal is to be in control of the state.

Kudos to you for wanting Mitt to make it, but I would urge you to do some research before you cast that vote.

I'm not happy with President Obama's record as well, but I still have enough respect to use his proper name when I speak of him.

And while you're at it, back it up with proven data that doesn't come from your favorite partisan websites.

I am tired of Obama's divisiveness, his refusal to uphold the laws of our nation, his repeated attempts to rule by fiat, his repeated attacks on those of us who have busted our butts and have had some measure of financial success, his denigration of American individualism, and his general socialist tendencies. i did not vote for him the first time, and I will certainly not vote for him this time. Although Romney may not have the "charisma" that Obama seems to display, he certainly appears to be more cognizant and respectful of our Constitution, the American way of life, and "government of the people, by the people, and for the people".
