The Strongsville Historical Society will host Home Front Day on Saturday, July 7 to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Civil War.

Visitors to the Historical Village, 13305 Pearl Rd., between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. will be greeted by people dressed in period costumes to re-create life in Strongsville in 1862.

Organizers promise "you will think you're in a movie."

Guests can learn firsthand the city’s contribution to the American Civil War effort -- inhale the smells, hear the sounds, meet Johnny Clem, live the life of a runaway slave, make an appointment with the town doctor, visit a Union Army encampment, see weaponry demonstrations, touch the tombs of Civil War veterans, read entries from journals, diaries and letters from those who served during the Civil War, see fashions of the era, shake hands with Abraham Lincoln and visit the sutler’s shops.

The event will include outdoor cooking, music, games, crafts, fashions, medicine and cemetery tours, and a weapons demonstration by the 29th Ohio Volunteer Infantry.

Among the portrayers of the era will be a young drummer boy, the youngest of the soldiers and a runaway slave, all telling their stories. 

Entrance to the Village is through the Freedom gate by the library. Shuttle bus service will be provided from the Ehrnfelt Recreation Center parking lots. 

Admission (donation) is $6 for adults, $5 for seniors, $3 for children 5-12, $15 for a family. Kids under 5 are free.
