More than 100 young artists decorated the sidewalks in the City Commons with works of art Saturday at the annual Arts in Strongsville Chalk Walk. Dean Karadimas is contestant on new season of Fox competition show
Dean Karadimas is a foodie from way back. Even before he started school at Allen Elementary, he was trying to cook meals for his family. "I'd always try to weasel my way into the kitchen," recalls Karadimas, a 2005 graduate of Strongsville High School. "Eventually, my mother let me help her cook." The upshot? Karadimas became so skilled with a skillet, he won a spot on the new season of MasterChef, the Fox reality show starring Gordon Ramsay in which amateur cooks from across the country compete for the title and a $250,000 grand prize. The fourth season starts May 22 with a two-hour premiere. Expect to see a bright splash of color at the Strongsville Commons this weekend. The third annual Chalk Walk is planned for May 18 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., rain or shine. Children and teens of all ages (and all communities) are welcome to join in the fun. Chalk is provided. Cruise over to Wallace Lake for family fun June 21
Cleveland Metroparks will host a "Cruise-In Movie" this June for a blast from the past. On Friday, June 21, "cruise" over to Wallace Lake in Mill Stream Run Reservation for an outdoor viewing of the 1989 movie Field of Dreams and a classic car show. The area opens at 5 p.m., with movie starting at sundown, about 8:45 p.m. Reserved parking is available for classic cars. There will be additional separate parking for general audience. Participants can watch the movie from their car, beach or grassy hill. Bring a ball and glove to play a game of catch on the baseball field before the movie, too. A rubber duck race on the Rocky River and a free Kids Fest are set for June 1 at the Cleveland Metroparks Chalet in Strongsville The event, which runs 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., will be sponsored by Pat Catan’s Craft Centers and hosted by the Rotary Club of Strongsville. Kids Fest activities will include pony rides, inflatables, magic, face painting and Touch-a-Truck featuring a Strongsville fire engine and other vehicles. Hot dogs, snacks and beverages will be available. Metroparks NatureTracks, a mobile classroom designed to expand visitors' knowledge of nature, will be on-site. Berea ARF will host a new event, A Night at the Races, on Friday, May 17, at Keller Hall of St. Adalbert Parish 66 Adalbert St. in Berea, from 6:30 - 10:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 and are sold in advance, and include an all-you-can-eat pasta, pizza, salad and sandwich buffet catered by Stancato’s, along with a homemade dessert buffet and soft drinks. Performances May 3 and 4 will benefit Special Olympics
A cast of more than 80 Cleveland-area figure skaters, hockey players and performers will bring the sideshow curiosities of the circus to life on the ice during Madame La Rue's Carnivale of Curiosities. Sponsored by the Strongsville Skating Club, the annual ice show will benefit the Special Olympics of Strongsville. The skating extravaganza will be performed at 7:30 p.m. May 3 and 4 at OBM Arena at Iceland USA. Doors will open each night at 6:30 p.m., with dancers, snake charmers and sideshow acts setting the mood.
