Strongsville Rotary Presents $5,000 to VFW

Money will be used to aid injured veterans

The Strongsville Rotary Foundation presented a $5,000 donation to the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Strongsville Post 3345, on Sept. 12.

The donation includes $2,500 raised at the foundation’s annual golf outing on Aug. 12. The other half of the donation was a match by the foundation, a non- profit organization affiliated with the Rotary Club of Strongsville.

Along with the donation to the VFW, proceeds from the golf outing will fund $17,000 in student scholarships next year.

Matt Finkler, chairman of the golf outing, presented the $5,000 check to VFW Post Commander Tim Zvoncheck. Finkler said the foundation wanted to use some of this year’s golf outing proceeds to help veterans.

“We knew if we got it into your hands you would know what to do with it,” Finkler told VFW members during a presentation at tonight’s post meeting.

Zvoncheck said the post will donate the money to The Fisher House Foundation and the Semper Fi Fund.

Fisher House builds homes on the grounds of major military and VA medical centers nationwide and in Europe. The homes enable family members to be close to loved ones during their hospitalization for a combat injury, illness or disease.

Semper Fi provides financial support for injured and critically ill members of the U.S. armed forces and their families.

Along with Finkler, Rotary was represented during the presentation by Jerry Balint, president of the Strongsville Rotary Foundation and Brian Kiplinger, president of the Rotary Club of Strongsville.
