Two author visits are among the November programs at the Strongsville branch


Here are the November 2012 events at the Strongsville Branch Library.  Registration is required for most events.

Library Closing Information All branches of Cuyahoga County Public Library will be closing at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 21, and will remain closed on Thursday, Nov. 22 in honor of the Thanksgiving Holiday.  We will resume normal hours on Friday, Nov. 23 at 9 a.m. 

  Year-Round Story Times! Cuyahoga County Public Library offers story time sessions year-round for children Birth to Grade 2. Our current story time sessions are in full swing!  No registration required. Join us as we share stories and fun in a group setting!  Please call the Strongsville Branch for specific program details.

Speed Cup Stacking. Ages 5 and up. Saturday, Nov. 3 from 2 – 3:30 p.m.  Registration begins on Oct. 15.

Looking for a fun activity on a Saturday afternoon? Come explore the fast paced world of competitive cup speed stacking. Watch a demonstration by the pros, and then try it for yourself! You can try out the official equipment and see for yourself how much fun you can have and how you can increase your speed.

Just 4 You Student Friends. Ages 10 and up.  Saturday, Nov. 10 from 1– 2 p.m.

Join the Just 4 U Student Friends group and get involved in your library!  Ages 10 - 18.  Contact the Library for more information.

Cleveland Christmas Memories.  Saturday, Nov. 10 at 2 p.m.

 Join us as local foodie and poet Gail Bellamy reminisces and shares holiday stories from her latest book, Cleveland Christmas Memories. Books will be available for purchase and a signing will be held courtesy of the Friends of the Strongsville Library.

Tales from Beyond.  Ages 11 – 18.  Monday, Nov. 12 from 4 – 5 p.m.

Hear true stories such as Lizzie Borden Axe Murders, Survivors of the Titanic, Shrunken Heads, and Jack the Ripper.  See real artifacts like an actual Titanic ticket, an 1888 Map of London, a Haitian voodoo doll and Jivar shrunken heads.  

Young at Heart Book Club.  Meets the first Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. 

A book club for adults who love children’s and teen books.  Our next discussion has been rescheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 13 at 7 p.m. due to Election Day.   Join us for refreshments and a sprightly discussion of children’s and teen literature.  We will be talking about our favorite books of the year so far. 

Out of the Kitchen: Vintage Aprons.  Wednesday, Nov. 14 at 7 p.m.

Aprons can bring back such wonderful memories, and every apron has its own story!  Lakewood resident Caroline Urban will share her extensive collection of more than 85 aprons and discuss their workmanship and history.

Good Morning, Strongsville Speaker Series: Preventing Back Pain.  Wednesday, Nov. 21 at 10 a.m. 

Our November speaker will be a representative from Southwest General Health Center speaking on Preventing Back Pain.  Back pain can be prevented.  Join us as Ray Shijo, Southwest's Orthopedic Joint Center Program Manager, as he discusses healthy lifestyle choices, easy exercise ideas, and ways to prevent injury.

Practice ACT Exam.  Grades 6 – 12.  Saturday, Nov. 24 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. 

Take a practice ACT test and be ready for the real thing.  Bring a No. 2 sharpened pencil and calculator to the practice exam.  Exam will start promptly at 10:00 a.m.  Sponsored by the Princeton Review.

Monday Afternoon Book Discussion.  Meets the 4th Monday of each month at 2:30 p.m.

Strongsville Saves Coupon Club.  Meets the 4th Monday of each month from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m.  Our next meeting is on Monday, Nov. 26. Join us for our coupon swap club and share your passion for saving with other like-minded shoppers!  Bring your scissors, and your stockpile of manufacturer coupons to share.  Share what you don't want and hopefully leave with more coupons that you really need!  This is the place to trade coupons, spend time with other coupon lovers, and share stories of great deals!  See how others organize and share tips.

West Side Market: 100 Years & Still Cooking.  Tuesday, Nov. 27 at 7 p.m.

Local food writers Laura Taxel and Marilou Suszko have joined forces on the new book, Cleveland’s West Side Market: 100 Years & Still Cooking, which documents the rich history of the landmark that is celebrating its centennial this year. Join us as we share stories and nostalgia of the renowned Market. Books will be available for purchase and a signing will be held courtesy of the Friends of the Strongsville Branch Library.

Wednesday Evening Book Discussion.  Meets the 3rd Wednesday of each month at 7 p.m.  New members welcome!  Our next discussion will be on Wednesday, Nov. 28 due to the Thanksgiving holiday.  The book this month is Await Your Reply by Dan Chaon.
