Extreme Couponing, Cake Decorating Coming to Library in January

Registration is required for most events. Call 440-238-5530 to register or for more information.  All events sponsored by the Friends of Strongsville Branch Library.

Library Closing Information: All branches of Cuyahoga County Public Library will be closed Monday, Dec. 31 and Tuesday, Jan. 1 for the New Year’s Holiday.  Normal Hours will resume on Wednesday, Jan. 2 at 9 a.m.

Year-Round Story Times!

 Cuyahoga County Public Library offers story time sessions year-round for children Birth to Grade 2.  Our current story time sessions will be in full swing after the New Year Holiday.  Please call the library for more information.

Teen Cake Decorating Workshop. Grades 6 – 12.  Monday, Jan. 7 from 7 – 8:30 p.m.

Want to learn some basic skills in creative cake (and cookie) decorating! You’ll get hands-on experience using frosting tips, a pastry bag, and colored frosting, plus you’ll get to take home your decorated cookies! All supplies provided. This is a great program to attend if you’re planning to enter the Bake A Book, Win a Nook™ contest! All participants MUST have a Release and Hold Harmless form signed by a parent or LEGAL guardian prior to the program in order to work with food. Stop by the Strongsville Library to pick up a form, or call the branch if you have any questions.

Young at Heart Book Club. Meets the first Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. 

A book club for adults who love children’s and teen books. Our next discussion will be Tuesday, Jan. 8 at 7 p.m. We will be discussing the book The One and Only Ivan by Katherine Applegate.  Join us for refreshments and a sprightly discussion of children’s and teen literature. 

Benefits Clinic. Thursday, January 10 from 3 – 7 p.m. 

Providing a healthy life for your family just got easier! If you are struggling to provide nutritious meals for you or your family, come to a benefits screening session to find out if you qualify for Food Assistance (the program formerly known as Food Stamps), medical assistance and/or cash assistance. Together Cuyahoga County Public Library and the Cleveland Foodbank are offering free help to determine benefits eligibility. A Benefit Outreach Counselor from the Cleveland Foodbank will be available to answer your questions and help you apply. No appointment necessary.

Mother Goose Field Day. Ages 3 – 5 with a caregiver. Saturday, Jan. 12 from 2 – 3:30 p.m. Registration begins Dec. 21.

Join us for stories and activities featuring Mother Goose nursery rhymes. Children and their caregivers will travel to nursery rhyme-themed stations. Mother Goose will be making a special appearance, so bring your camera for photo opportunities. No autographs, please.

Heartbeat Afrika! All Ages. Tuesday, Jan. 15 at 7 p.m.

Experience percussion using trashcans, buckets, African drums, conventional drums, and rhythms played by feet, body, and hands. Join us as this ensemble group performs traditional African percussion, song, storytelling, theater and dance to preserve African music in America.

Good Morning Strongsville Speaker Series: Healthy Relationships with Food. Wednesday, Jan. 16 at 10 a.m. 

Our January speaker will be a representative from Southwest General Health Center. Are you satisfied with life or hungering for more? Join Marlene Kurcz, LPCC_S from Southwest General Behavioral Health as she helps explain why we make the choices we make, what those choices mean, and she discusses how to have a healthy relationship with food.

Wednesday Evening Book Discussion.  Meets the 3rd Wednesday of each month at 7 p.m.

Income Tax Talk.  Thursday, Jan. 17 at 7 p.m.

Join Kenn Oerkfitz from H&R Block as he shares information about the upcoming income tax season.  He will also answer your tax questions.

Teen Bake A Book, Win a Nook™ Contest Judging at Polaris Career Center

 Open to all students in grades 6-12 residing in Berea, Brook Park, Brooklyn, Fairview Park, Middleburg Heights, North Olmsted, Olmsted Falls and Strongsville (the school districts affiliated with Polaris Career Center).  Official rules available at the Strongsville branch beginning December 3rd, 2012.  Join us at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Jan.19, 2013 at Polaris Career Center (7285 Old Oak Blvd., Middleburg Heights) for judging and awarding of prizes!  All cake and cupcake entries will be on display!

G2P: Xbox Adrenaline Kinect!  Grades 5 – 12.  Monday, Jan. 21 from 2 – 4 p.m.

Come play Xbox 360 Adrenaline Misfits with Kinect and race through 7 unique fantasy worlds including the snowy mountain, stormy desert, glacier lands, limestone caves, volcanoes and more.  Will you take the challenge? 

Saving Money with Joe the Coupon Guy.  Wednesday, Jan. 23 at 7 p.m.

Joe Daugirdas, also known as The Coupon Guy®, will be here to share his money saving tips and shopping knowledge with us.  Joe has been honing his shopping skills in the Northeast Ohio area for many years.  He has built his saving ways to the point where he typically saves 70 to 80 percent when shopping for groceries and over 90 percent for toiletries. Learn all the secrets, and find out how extreme couponers like The Coupon Guy®, save money on utilities, cell phones, restaurants, travel, gas, groceries, medicine and much more!

We Can All Be Brave and Kind.  Grades 2 – 5.  Saturday, Jan. 26 from 2 – 3 p.m.  Registration begins on Jan. 11.

Through participatory folktales from diverse cultures, song, role-playing and reflection, Susan Weber invites children to empathize with story characters and consider effective responses when confronted with unkind words and actions. Workshop participants explore positive behaviors in a safe, supportive environment.  This is a program about bullying for students in grades 2 – 5.

Strongsville Saves Coupon Club.  Meets the 4th Monday of each month from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. Our next meeting is on Monday, Jan. 28.

Join us for our coupon swap club and share your passion for saving with other like-minded shoppers!  Bring your scissors, and your stockpile of manufacturer coupons to share. Share what you don't want and hopefully leave with more coupons that you really need!  This is the place to trade coupons, spend time with other coupon lovers, and share stories of great deals!  See how others organize and share tips.

I agree with tom m. It is not "user friendly" at all! The whole setup and search isRead More terrible. This new format should be thrown out and the old one put back in place. A look at other Patch editions out of state also have very little comments now. I would much prefer the old Patch, but now a better alternative by far to this new Patch is any of these: http://www.strongsville.com/ and http://www.thepostnewspapers.com/strongsville/ and http://www.cleveland.com/strongsville/ and http://hometownindependent.com/strongsville/

Grace C&MA is located on pearl rd in middleburg hts just before bagley- I been going there myRead More whole life- it's an amazing church. Non -denominational, very real down to earth people. You can dress however you want, shorts, sandals, or a suit! Pastor Jonathan Schaffer is amazing- you will feel so loved!
