Here are the August 2013 events at the Strongsville Branch Library.  Registration is required for most events.

All branches of Cuyahoga County Public Library will be closed Saturday, August 31 through Monday, Sept. 2 for Labor Day. Normal hours resume at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 3. 

Year-Round Story Times!
Cuyahoga County Public Library offers story time sessions year-round for children Birth to Grade 2.  Our current story time sessions are on hiatus for the month of August.  We will resume story time sessions after Labor Day.  Please call the library for more information.

Brain Building.  Thursday, August 1st from 7:00 – 8:00 p.m.
Challenging your brain is an important component of successful aging. Join Linda Bliss from Kemper House as she shares ways to maximize your daily memory fitness and how to challenge your brain with new activities. 

Ice Cream Social.  All Ages!  Saturday, August 3rd from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m.
Celebrate reading! Participants in our Summer Reading Program and their parents and/or grandparents are invited to the library for ice cream sundaes. (Special thanks to the V.F.W. Post 3345 for sponsoring this event to congratulate our summer readers. Be sure to visit the V.F.W.’s weekly Friday Fish Fry at their post located at 17900 Strongsville Blvd.) Please register by phone, in person, or at cuyahogalibrary.org beginning on July 19 at 9:00 a.m.

Young at Heart Book Discussion.  Tuesday, August 6th at 7:00 p.m. 

A book club for adults who love Children’s and Teen books.  Meets the first Tuesdayevening of every month.  Please register in person to pick up a copy of the book.  Our next discussion will be on the book Dead End in Norvelt by Jack Gantos. 

Scoliosis for Seniors.  Wednesday, August 7th from 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.

Scoliosis is a curvature of the spine. People with scoliosis can experience shortness of breath, back pain, and noticeable posture changes. Join us for an informative talk and meet scoliosis therapists from Southwest General Hospital who will speak about scoliosis treatment for adults. Learn the newest form of exercise to help your endurance, posture and pain.

Friends of Strongsville Library Annual Meeting and Author Event with Tom Batiuk.  Wednesday, August 14th at 7:00 p.m. 

A short business meeting begins this wonderful evening featuring author, Tom Batiuk. Mr. Batiuk is a cartoonist from Ohio who is most known for his Crankshaftand Funky Winkerbean comic strips. Books will be available for purchase and a signing will follow his presentation. This program is FREE to all members of the Friends of Strongsville Branch Library. Memberships will be available at the door for $8.00 per person/family or can be purchased in advance at the Strongsville Branch. A Friends membership is good for one year, it helps to support the Strongsville Branch Library, and your membership fee also entitles you to early entry to all of our Book Sales.

Discover Careers That Fit Your Personality.  Thursday, August 15th from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m.

Customize your job search to match your personality to a career you can love! A Cuyahoga County Public Library Job and Career Center Counselor will introduce the concepts and help you identify individual, preferred personality types by utilizing areas of the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) instrument.

Wednesday Evening Book Discussion.  Meets the 3rd Wednesday of each month at 7:00 p.m.  New Members Welcome!  Our next discussion will be onWednesday, August 21st.  This month we are discussing our favorite reads from the summer. Join us for great conversation! 

Monday Afternoon Book Discussion.  Meets the 4th Mondays of each month at2:30 p.m.  New Members Welcome!  Our next discussion will be on Monday, August 26th.  The book this month is The Paris Wife by Paula McClain.  Please pick-up a copy of this book at the circulation desk, and join us for great conversation! 

Strongsville Saves Coupon Club.  Meets the 4th Monday of each month from6:30 – 8:30 p.m.  Our next meeting is on Monday, August 26th. 

Join us for our coupon swap club and share your passion for saving with other like-minded shoppers!  Bring your scissors, and your stockpile of manufacturer coupons to share.  Share what you don't want and hopefully leave with more coupons that you really need!  This is the place to trade coupons, spend time with other coupon lovers, and share stories of great deals! 

 Homework: A Parent’s Survival Guide.  Tuesday, August 27th from 7:00 – 8:00 p.m.

School has begun and students are just starting to deal with homework. Come to this free practical workshop offering parents the advice they need to tackle common homework problems. Sponsored by Huntington Learning Center. Open to parents and other interested adults.

Meet Author Gregg Hurwitz.  Wednesday, August 28th from 7:00 – 8:30 p.m. 

Meet Gregg Hurwitz, the bestselling author of thirteen novels including his latest,Tell No Lies. His 2012 release, The Survivor, was named one of the best thrillers of the year by both Library Journal and Kirkus. In addition to his novels, Gregg has also written comics for Marvel and DC, as well as screenplays for television and film.  Books will be available for purchase and signing courtesy of the Friends of the Strongsville Branch Library and Mac's Backs - Books on Coventry.
