The Real Macaw: a Meg Langslow Mystery By Donna Andrews.  November 2011, 309 pages.

In this latest humorous installment, Meg is dealing with 4-month-old twins and a living room full of animals stolen from the local animal shelter by her tender-hearted father and friends in protest of a recent no-kill repeal policy. Then the volunteer who was to transport the animals to new homes is murdered. Will Meg ever get some sleep?  Fans of the series and folks looking for a funny mystery should enjoy this title.

Silent Enemy By Thomas W. Young, August 2011, 292 pages.

When the Afghan National Police training center in Kabul is attacked by jihadists four years after the events of The Mullah's Storm, Major Michael Parson accompanies wounded soldiers on planes bound for Germany only to discover that several of the planes have been sabotaged. State of Wonder By Ann Patchett, June 2011, 353 pages.

A researcher at a pharmaceutical company, Marina Singh journeys into the heart of the Amazonian delta to check on a field team that has been silent for two years -- a dangerous assignment that forces Marina to confront the ghosts of her past. This book could be considered a modern day “Heart of Darkness." Patchett is truly an excellent storyteller.  Readers will be fascinated by her descriptions and the story that takes place in the primitive world of the Amazon.
