Summer Camps Offered by Metroparks

Kids can learn about nature, spend time outdoors

The Cleveland Metroparks offers Summer Nature Camps throughout the district. 

Registration for Summer Day Camps starts Tuesday, April 17 at 9:30 a.m. for Cuyahoga County and Hinckley Township residents. Registration for all out-of-county begins on Tuesday, April 24 at 9:30 a.m. Space is limited.

Brecksville Reservation:

Camp Brecksville
Join naturalists to explore Brecksville Reservation in search of the many plants and animals that call this reservation home. Plan for hiking, crafts, games and fun in the forest, creek and prairie! Campers to bring sack lunch. Registration and a $48 fee are required. Space is limited. For more information and to register, call 440-526-1012.

Primitive Survival Skills Camp

 Learn what to put in a survival kit, make a fire without matches, build an emergency shelter and cook outdoors using a Dutch oven. Plan for three hands-on days working on personal survival skills. Hinckley Reservation: 

CampHinckley
Kids: ready for three days of adventure and fun? Enjoy the opportunity to try orienteering, fishing, kayaking, fire building, and more at Camp Hinckley. Campers to bring sack lunch. Registration and a $64 fee are required. Space is limited. For more information and to register, call 440-526-1012.

Youth Kayaking and SUPCamp

 Have fun on the water learning two new sports. Explore nature from a new perspective and learn to "walk on water" stand-up paddleboard (SUP) style, then spend some time learning how to kayak. Be prepared to get wet as participants learn paddle strokes, etiquette and safety. Campers to bring sack lunch. Registration and a $45 fee are required. Space is limited. Ohio & Erie Canal Reservation:

Let's Explore CanalWay

CanalWay Camper
Spend three days discovering the skills of an extreme camper through fun and games. Set up tents, use a compass, build a fire, hike, and fish. Be ready to get dirty exploring as we master the art of camping. Campers to bring sack lunch. Registration and a $55 fee are required. Space is limited. CanalWay Adventure Camp
 Spend three days doing different recreational activities. Learn about backpacking, fishing and biking. Participants must provide own bike and know how to ride it for the bike day. Native American Experience Camp
 Campers spend three days in the past learning about local Native Americans. Children have the opportunity to practice skills such as atl atling, pottery and cordage making, as well as campfires, games and hiking. Campers to bring sack lunch. CanalWay Nature Explorers 

 Get ready for three fun-filled days of exploration at the Ohio & Erie Canal Reservation. Play games and activities that are based around the local wildlife. Time will be spent tracking deer, watching for birds, pond netting for turtles and frogs, and searching the fields for insects. Campers to bring sack lunch. Registration and a $55 fee are required. July 31 - Aug 2    Ages: 6 - 8            10 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.  

Rocky River Reservation:

Preschool Nature Camp
 Let's explore the forest, river and ponds that are a part of the Rocky River Valley. Search high and low to discover the critters that make this valley their home.  Participants walk the trails, play games, get dirty and have fun! Campers to bring sack lunch. Primitive CampSkills
 Join Naturalist Kathy Schmidt and local experts to learn primitive skills. Start a fire with flint and steel, build a debris shelter, and find your way with a map and compass. Birds, Bats, Bugs and Worms
 Join Naturalist Min Keung for three days of big fun! Go on an insect and worm safari, scout for birds, and look for our resident bats. Play games, get outside and have fun. Park Teensters

 Snakes, Turtles and Frogs
 Get up-close and personal during this three-day outdoor exploration into the lives of reptiles and amphibians. Search the forest, pond and river habitats for live specimens and enjoy a variety of crafts, games and activities. Long pants and sturdy shoes recommended; packed lunch and a canteen required.
