Drake School Wins $2,500 from Westfield SouthPark

Elementary chosen in Give Back to School program

Drake Elementary School today receives a $2,500 donation from Westfield SouthPark from the "Give Back to School" program.'

Westfield is awarding $57,500 nationally through its 23 shopping centers to support school programs like arts and music, sciences, physical education, libraries and technology resources.

The winning school was chosen by Westfield shoppers themselves – more than 75 families "voted" in the mall and online to choose Drake Elementary as the winner, with technology as the suggested area for the funds.

Votes were cast by shoppers who presented their shopping receipts from Westfield retailers to the concierge desk, with each dollar spent counting as 1 point. Additional points were earned by “liking” Westfield SouthPark on Facebook.

To celebrate, Westfield SouthPark hosted an event this morning that included a magic show and check presentation. All the students at the school will also receive an eco-friendly color-your-own lunch tote from Westfield SouthPark.

“This is such a great surprise for our school.  We’re going to use the money for some much needed technology upgrades. Thanks to our PTA and families for working together to make this happen for our students,”  principal Glen L. Stacho said in a news release.

During the “Give Back to School” program, shoppers also showed their generosity by donating school supplies, clothing and backpacks to The Salvation Army.
