Finally -- a Fine Day for a Garage Sale

Sunny skies, warmer weather welcome Ward 4 event

A rare sunny day greeted Ward 4 residents hosting garage sales today.

"Can you believe it? What luck," said Beth Smith of White Bark Drive.

She was among those in her neighborhood to tie balloons to her mailbox this morning and open her garage to the bargain-hunting world.

"It's a good opportunity when the whole area does it," Smith said.

The annual Ward 4 garage sale runs Thursday and Friday and Saturday. Hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Participating homes are marked with balloons.

On White Bark, a dozen cars were parked along the street even though only a few households were selling.

"It used to be the whole neighborhood," Smith's neighbor, Kim Malangone said. "We'd all just kind of trade our stuff."

This year, the sellers are a little sparse. Malangone participates every year, though.

"I don't have a basement, so every year it lets me decide what I should keep and what I should get rid of," she said.
