Food Beats Shoes as Replacement for Giant Eagle

Readers have lots of good ideas on how to use space if supermarket relocates next year

Trader Joe's and Whole Foods were the most popular suggestions for what should fill the Giant Eagle store at if the supermarket relocates to Pearl Road next year.

In comments to Strongsville Patch and our Facebook page, more readers chose Trader Joe's than any other would-be replacement.

That was followed by Whole Foods Market, DSW, Toys R Us and IKEA

"Whole Foods or Trader Joe's would be amazing!" Kelly Sheredy wrote.

  last month to build a 90,000-square-foot superstore on the site of and on Pearl Road. Voters have to approve a rezoning on part of the property in March for the project to go forward.

Yesterday, for suggestions on what should move into the current 60,000-square-foot Giant Eagle building if it does move.

"A large men's club, such as Crazy Horse but bigger. An indoor rifle and pistol range, steak house, and Internet cafe -- all under one roof! It would be so AWESOME! Think of the jobs/revenue that would create. Heck, I'd live there!" Winston Smith posted.

"Either a Sam Ash music store, whose closest store is in Lynhurst, or a Guitar Center music store, whose closest stores are in North Olmsted and Fairlawn," Jeff Poor suggested.

"A traffic light at that intersection in front of it," Dan Sparks wrote on Facebook. "And maybe a Gander Mountain."

Other stores people want in Strongsville: Nordstrom Rack, Container Store, PetSmart, Cheesecake Factory, an ocean and Michael's craft store.
