Former Subway Building to be Razed

New owner plans to rebuild on Pearl Road site

The retail plaza on Pearl Road that previously housed Subway and Page One Realty will be demolished and rebuilt, city officials said.

Economic Development Director Brent Painter said the building changed hands and the new owner intends to tear down part of the older building, located south of Royalton Road across from Boston Market and Taco Bell, within a few weeks.

The attached building housing Federated Auto Parts Center store has a different owner and will remain, he said.

"The worst part of the building is ready to go down," Painter said.

The rebuilding won't start right away, though. Painter said there is some asbestos in the walls that will require special cleanup.

But he said the owner has an end-user interested in the site once it can be rebuilt.

"Nothing's a done deal, but it sounds like they've got some good interest there," he said.

Subway has moved a few blocks south to a new building at 14904 Pearl Rd.
