Strongsville High School Can Win $100,000 at Teen Driver Event

State Farm will have safety fair, prizes at SouthPark Mall

is rallying 360 communities across the country Sept. 15 to promote teen driver safety.

As part of the promotion, 14 high schools -- including one in the Strongsville area -- will win $100,000 grants.

Locally, will host the event from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. 

School officials and teachers at the high school want to rally the community to participate by voting for online and at the event.

"This is an opportunity we can't pass up," Superintendent John Krupinski said.

Between Sept. 10 and 15, visit celebratemydrive.com and register SHS for a chance to win the $100,000 grant.

Dane Donaldson, a Strongsville State Farm agent, said anyone 14 and older can register once a day for SHS. Because the regional event is at SouthPark Mall, the winning high school will be within a 40-mile radius of Strongsville.

Also, one lucky teen (15-18) who visits the celebration at the mall Sept. 15 will win the grand prize, a brand new Chevy Sonic LS. A total of 14 cars will be given away across the U.S and Canada. Complete rules are available at www.celebratemydrive.com/rules).

At the Strongsville event, Kyrie Irving from the Cleveland Cavaliers will be on hand to sign autographs. There will also be interactive activities and giveaways.

At the event, teens will be able to participate in safe driving exhibits and rallies. Car crashes are the No. 1 killer of American teens, according to State Farm, which says it believes awareness, education and enforcement are keys to keeping teens safe on the road. 

Its new teen driver safey program is called Celebrate My Drive.

"It would be great for Strongsville to get the $100,000," Donaldson said. "But it would be even better to save a life."

Ward 3 Councilman Jim Carbone said will give away coupons for a free chicken sandwich to the first 250 teens at the event Sept. 15. will give the next 100 teens coupons for a free smoothie.
