NOONATICS Rock with British Invasion Band: Herman’s Hermits!

The wildly popular British Invasion band, Herman's Hermits, played to a packed audience. Peter Noone still had the Noonatics screaming for more at this outdoor concert!

Dark clouds from Hurricane Isaac threatened the outdoor concert, yet Peter Noone of Herman’s Hermits played to a packed audience at Akron’s Lock 3 outdoor amphitheatre. Herman’s Hermits is a British pop band, formed in 1963 that first took Britain by storm and was nearly as popular as the Beatles in their home country.  When they crossed the ocean to the U.S., they had so many screaming young girls at their shows that the fans were nick-named the Noonatics.

After an initial cloudburst on Saturday, September 1st, the opening band, Aftermath - Experience the Sixties, played one hit after another, warming up the audience with some hot rock and roll.

When Peter Noone took the stage, the Noonatics started screaming just as in the sixties. I was lucky enough to be literally front and center of the stage and was not three feet away from Peter Noone belting out his songs!  Noone and Herman’s Hermits performed many of their hits, including Hold On, What a Wonderful World, Can’t You Hear My Heartbeat, No Milk Today, and their two US Billboard Hot 100 No.1’s with Mrs. Brown, You've Got a Lovely Daughter and I'm Henry the Eighth, I Am, (a British music hall song). I must say that Peter Noone still has an awesome voice and is quite the entertainer.  He had all of us singing, clapping and laughing in stitches with his humor.

My British husband, Peter Cyngier, first met Peter Noone almost fifty years ago at the Peterborough Palais in England. We were fortunate enough to talk briefly with Peter Noone after the show and both Peters reminisced about the good old days and friends in the music business.  The show itself was absolutely awesome and had everyone on their feet. It was truly a terrific night out!

Thanks for posting this in your blog! I'm a Noonatic from Oklahoma and am so glad you and your husband were able to attend Peter's show in spite of the rain and storms. Your photos were great and the Lock looked like a cool place to be on a stormy summer evening!

Karen, we wouldn't have missed this one! It's great that Peter Noone didn't do all the drugs back in the day and can still perform an amazing concert now in 2012. So many other sixties bands no longer perform, although their music continues through tribute bands. Hats off to Peter Noone and Herman's Hermits! I had never been to the Lock 3 amphitheater - it is centrally located in downtown Akron, Ohio. Turned out to be a lovely night after the initial downpour before the warm-up band.

I agree with tom m. It is not "user friendly" at all! The whole setup and search isRead More terrible. This new format should be thrown out and the old one put back in place. A look at other Patch editions out of state also have very little comments now. I would much prefer the old Patch, but now a better alternative by far to this new Patch is any of these: http://www.strongsville.com/ and http://www.thepostnewspapers.com/strongsville/ and http://www.cleveland.com/strongsville/ and http://hometownindependent.com/strongsville/

I agree with tom - this new format is awful - nothing good about it at all. Throw it out and putRead More the old Patch back in place. Hey readers, check out strongsville.com - its a better alternative than this Patch is now. For news, just go to cleveland.com.
