Spectacular Lightning Show

A symphony of rapid fire lightning bolts lit up the Strongsville sky on June 12th.

There they were, one after another. It was as if an angry Greek god, Zeus, was throwing lightning bolts across the sky as the clouds lit up with flashes and streaks of lightning. There were multiple lightning streaks simultaneously moving amongst the clouds in straight, jagged and even curved lines.

There was no wind, no rain and the thunder was distant. My husband, Pete, called me to see this show of nature. I ventured out into the field in our backyard and sat down on a picnic table as one flash of lightning was followed by another in rapid succession.

When I was a child, I was very afraid of the lightning and thunder of thunderstorms. One day my father's friend (we called him Uncle Tony) was at our house during a storm. He went to the front door and watched through the glass door. When a particularly loud clap of thunder erupted, I clutched his leg in fear. Uncle Tony explained the science behind the storms and then helped me see the beauty of the lightning. Since then I have looked for the beauty in the storms, while respecting their power.
