The Death of Bees
By Lisa O’Donnell, January 2013, 320 pages.

This new book is a debut coming of age story about two sisters and the secrets they are keeping.  Their parents are dead and they aren’t telling anyone how it happened.  A lonely old neighbor tries to help them but the lies keep piling on. Fans of Swamplandia! and The Secret Life of Bees will enjoy this grim yet funny coming of age story.

The Mapmaker’s War: a Legend
By Ronlyn Domingue, March 2013, 272 pages.

This story begins with a young woman named Aoife who starts an apprenticeship to become a mapmaker in her kingdom. As she travels beyond the borders of her home, she discovers a group of secretive people who live in peace as they protect a mythical treasure. Aoife finds herself exiled from her kingdom for treason when she attempts to warn the people whom her kingdom has targeted as an enemy. This is an amazing tale of love, loss, and the power of the human spirit. Readers will enjoy this fantastic tale in this newly planned epic series.

This debut book is a love story about a family torn apart by a medical crisis and the ethical dilemma of keeping a pregnant woman with no chance of recovery on life support for months in an attempt to give her unborn baby a chance at survival. An accident has left Matt’s wife Elle brain dead. He wants to take her off life support but everything changes when he finds out she is pregnant. A legal fight with Elle’s family complicates the story event further. This is a heart-wrenching dilemma combined with a Nicholas Sparks like romance which should appeal to fans of Jodi Picoult and Jacqueline Mitchard.
