The Age of Miracles: a Novel
By Karen Thompson Walker, June 2012, 272 pages.
Heather’s Favorite of 2012.

What would happen if the Earth’s rotation began to slow? How would it affect our every day lives? This is the dilemma in this amazing debut novel by Walker. The book is the coming of age story of a young girl named Julia who is just trying to live a normal life. As the days get longer and longer, gravity is affected, and Julia’s world becomes far from normal. You do not have to be a science fiction reader to enjoy this book. Fans of the Hunger Games will also want to check-out this unforgettable new book of 2012.

Peaches for Father Francis: a Novel
By Joanne Harris, October 2012, 453 pages.
Dona’s Favorite of 2012.

This book will magically transport readers back to the small rural French village featured in the book Chocolat. As the first book took place during Lent, this book takes place during Ramadan. Vianne Rocher and her two daughters are summoned back to Lansquenet after eight years and discover new and rising tension between the village’s very traditional Catholic residents and the new Muslim neighbors. Will tragedy hit before the truth can be revealed? Readers will especially love the lyrical descriptions and the character growth in Father Francis.
