Ask Bob By Peter Gethers, August 2013, 320 pages.

Dr. Robert Heller is one of the top veterinarians in New York City. In fact he’s so good that he has his own advice column called “Ask Dr Bob”. The downside to being so good with animals is that Dr. Bob doesn’t really know how to handle relationships with people. He would much rather prefer dealing with cats, dogs, rabbits, anything with more than two legs. Tragedy strikes Bob and he very suddenly needs to learn how to handle people and not just animals. This novel is full of characters and deals with issues of love, family, friends, and marriage. If you enjoy reading about these themes with lots of animals thrown in the mix, you will enjoy this book.

The Fairest of Them All By Carolyn Turgeon, August 2013, 256 pages.

Turgeon takes two beloved fairy tales and combines them together in this new novel. In an enchanted forest, a young prince hears the voice of Rapunzel, and climbs her golden hair to spend a passionate night with her. The prince returns to the kingdom, and eventually marries his betrothed. The kingdom celebrates when the king and queen’s beautiful daughter Snow White is born. Rapunzel learns of about the marriage and birth of Snow White from those that seek her advice when they visit her in her tower, and she struggles to deal with the love she lost. When the queen dies, the king finds himself wondering about his lost love Rapunzel that he left in the enchanted forest. Readers will be enchanted by this magically twisted fairy tale.

Fin & Lady By Cathleen Schine, July 2013, 273 pages.

The author of The Three Weissmanns of Westport is back with a light and funny summer read set in 1964 about newly orphaned Fin who is sent to live with his flighty and charismatic half-sister named Lady in Greenwich Village. The question is who is really raising who? Fans of Elizabeth Berg or Eleanor Brown (Weird sisters) will probably enjoy this delightful novel.
