Last Winter of Dani Lancing By P.D. Viner, October 2013, 400 pages.

Viner brings us a debut novel that follows the ranks of Tana French, Gillian Flynn and  A.S.A. Harrison.  Dani Lancing, a young promising college student, was brutally murdered twenty years ago.  The case has been cold for quite some time and her parents are still dealing with their grief and unanswered questions.  Tom, who was Dani’s college boyfriend at the time of the murder, has become an adult and makes it his life mission to solve crimes of a similar nature.  Now Tom has found a new lead in the case that has haunted him and Dani’s parents for the last twenty years.  This is another page turner you won’t want to put down as we all learn what exactly happened to Dani all those years ago.

This book shares the story of a woman heartbroken by the loss of her children.  Lucy and Matt were the perfect married couple with two kids.  After a bout of postpartum depression, their marriage is tested and Lucy ends up having an affair with an ex-boyfriend.  Matt takes the kids away and now seven years later, Lucy is dealing with the choices she made and grieving the loss of her family.  This character driven novel is a gripping debut that readers should definitely check-out.

Where the Moon Isn’t By Nathan Filer , November 2013, 320 pages.

This stunning debut novel tells the story of two brothers who sneak out in the middle of the night while they are on vacation with their parents.  Only the younger brother, Matthew, returns.  Ten years later, Matthew tells us that he has found a way to bring his brother back.  This haunting and tender page turner is recommended for readers who enjoy Lisa Genova and S.J. Watson.
