Girls of August By Anne Rivers Siddons August 2013, 350 pages.

It’s a tradition that every August, these four women friends take a beach vacation every year. It began when they were in their twenties and their husbands were in medical school. The main requirement of the vacation was that the house they rent has to be on the beach and isolated so there aren’t any distractions while they rekindle their friendship every year. They called themselves the Girls of August. Tragically, one of the girls in the group dies and so does the yearly vacation. It is now years later and a marriage has reunited these women. They decide it’s time to take that yearly trip and become once again, the Girls of August. For Maeve Binchy fans looking for another author to read, Anne Rivers Siddons is certainly a viable option.
