Suspenseful Reads to Check-Out at Your Library!

Librarians Heather Timko, Dona Stein, & Jennifer Niederhausen bring to you great new books to check-out at Strongsville Branch Library.

This week’s book selections are great reads for those mystery and thriller book lovers out there. If you are looking for a suspenseful read, enjoy detective novels, or just want to try something new, these books are sure to please. Happy Reading!

After Her By Joyce Maynard, August 2013, 320 pages.

The author of Labor Day has based her latest, a thriller and coming of age story, on the Trailside killer case. Like the factual case, the story takes place in Marin County in California in 1979 when a serial killer called the Sunset Strangler has begun targeting young women and leaving them dead on a nearby mountain. Then the two adventurous and imaginative young daughters of the detective in charge decide to conduct their own investigation to help their father, and the consequences will alter all of their lives. Fans of Alice Sebold or Ann Packer might enjoy this gripping read.

Alien Hunter By Whitley Strieber, August 2013, 352 pages.

Police detective Flynn Carroll is devastated to find his young wife has vanished – it appears she left on her own as there is no indication of a kidnapping. As he investigates her disappearance, he finds out that there are more cases of mysterious vanishings just like his wife. His work attracts Special Agent Diana Glass, a member of the most secret police unit on the planet. The two of them join forces in this most lethal and dangerous police assignment ever. This suspenseful new novel is the first in a new extraterrestrial crime thriller series.

The Mysterious Death of Miss Jane Austen By Lindsay Ashford, August 2013, 368 pages.

One of the most famous English novelists, Jane Austen, died at the young age of 41, and no one seems to know how or why she died. This fictional account by mystery author Ashford asks the question “Did Austen die of natural causes or did something more disturbing happen?” Inspired by letters and diaries from the Austen archives, the novel follows along as Jane Austen’s close friend Anne Sharp tries to find out what happened to Jane. Fans of Jane Austen and those that enjoy a good mystery should check out this book.

Tell No Lies By Gregg Hurwitz, August 2013, 368pages.

Daniel Brasher is a counselor who works with ex-convicts. He finds himself caught up with a killer who slipped a note into his mail box by mistake, warning someone to admit what they did before a certain date or that person would be killed. He gets the letter after the first date passed and now that person is dead. As more envelopes begin to arrive, Daniel realizes he must race to help the police find the killer to stop more deaths. Thriller fans should check-out this title soon, as the author will be paying a visit to the Strongsville Branch Library on Wednesday, August 28th at 7 p.m. You won’t want to miss this special author event and book signing!
