Self-Esteem: What is it?

Self esteem is a very necessary quality for children, and high levels promote a strong self-image that helps arm them to handle difficult situations and make tough decisions

Self esteem: What is it?

Well, self esteem is hard to get your hands around or touch it like a pair of gloves, yet everyone especially children NEED to have it.

It’s a general feeling of well being that let’s you know that you’re OK, that you truly feel worthwhile and like yourself for WHO you are.

How others treat people affects self esteem frequently.  I am certain you remember growing up something said to you from a parent, teacher, friends etc. that caused you to feel bad about yourself.  Conversely, I am certain you remember the times that someone took extra time and did or said something to make you feel special.

Having high self esteem is like having a shield of armor that protects you from the impact of negative comments like teasing or name calling that puts your child down.

Tip for the day:  Find something today to compliment your child or children about.  Perhaps it’s about a behavior they demonstrated, the words they chose when asking for something.

A simple touch on the shoulder with a kind acknowledgement will go far.

Try it today and repeat it daily this week and watch your child smile on the outside and know they are smiling even bigger on the inside.

Let me know how it goes.  Feel free to send me note about how it’s going with this idea.
