Ceremony Reflects Real Reason for the Season

Strongsville's Winter Wonderland and UCC's live nativity are refreshing traditions.

Within walking distance of the mall’s mayhem of materialism, Strongsville last Friday welcomed the Christmas season with a dramatic lighting ceremony on the Commons. The magical conversion of the Commons into an electrifying Winter Wonderland, followed by a spectacular fireworks display, perfectly set the stage for the arrival of Santa Claus on a brightly-lighted fire truck.

But not before the real reason for the season was acknowledged with Strongsville families united in prayer. Across the street, the Strongsville United Church of Christ celebrated Jesus’ birth with a live nativity. It was a refreshing and appropriate departure from the misguided retail riots of “Black Friday.”

Mayor Perciak, the city staff, the Lion’s Club, the local sponsors and all others involved are to be commended for presenting a tasteful, old-fashioned family event that has become an annual highlight in our town.
