To the Editor:
I would like to extend my sincerest thanks to the citizens of Strongsville for their overwhelming support of ballot Issue 97, for rezoning to expand Kemper House. On Nov. 6, voters resoundingly affirmed our plan for expansion at 10890 Prospect Rd.
Kemper House, for those who are not familiar, is a residential longterm care environment for people living with diagnoses of Alzheimer's and related dementias. Our facility is currently comprised of two neighborhoods, accommodating 50 residents. The intent is to add a third neighborhood on the parcel north of the property, which will enable Kemper House to care for an additional 25 individuals with dementia diagnoses. In the coming months we will be finalizing pre-construction plans, with the intention of breaking ground in the spring.
Statistics show 50 percent of all seniors 85 and older will be diagnosed with some form of dementia. In a time when the Baby Boomer generation is hitting retirement age, our nation is facing a growing epidemic. I am so grateful to the citizens of Strongsville for the opportunity to serve more Strongsville residents and families as the need for quality dementia care rises.
Betty J. Kemper
President, Kemper House
