What Should Go in Vacant Giant Eagle Store?

If supermarket moves, there will be a prime retail space available

It's a long way off and not a done deal, but if next year, there will be a 60,000-square-foot store to fill next to .

It's way too early to even speculate, but we can't help it.

What should go there?

Here's ours: Designer Shoe Warehouse. The closest DSW is at Great Northern Mall, which is almost a half hour away.

Either a Sam Ash music store who's closest store is in Lynhurst or a Guitar Center music store who's closest stores are in North Olmsted and Fairlawn.

A Michael's craft store but I don't think Pat Catan's would be too happy about that.

I second the motion for a DSW shoe store!

Yes, a DSW please!
Carrie Bjelanović December 07, 2011 at 05:38 PM
IKEA! but of course would need more space. Closest one is in Pittsburgh (2 hours) or Cincinnati (4 hours).

Toys R Us!
Jerrie123 December 07, 2011 at 08:00 PM
1) IKEA 2) Toys R Us 3) Pet Smart
Carrie Bjelanović December 07, 2011 at 08:41 PM
There is a Toys R US in Parma and one in North Olmsted along with a Babies R US. The market would be too saturated I think.
Candice Panico December 07, 2011 at 09:10 PM
They should close the one in Parma, and open one in Strongsville. They would have a lot more business here.

A large Men's club, such as "Crazy Horse" but bigger. An indoor Rifle & Pistol range, Steak House, and Internet Cafe-all under one roof! It would be so AWESOME! Think of the jobs/revenew that would create. Heck, I'd live there!

Elaine Taylor December 08, 2011 at 06:43 PM
A Book Store. We're a City of 46,000 people without a book store! Or - The Mustard Seed Market (which has stores in Akron and Solon), or a Trader Joe's or a Whole Foods would be great also.
Carrie Bjelanović December 08, 2011 at 07:34 PM
Strongsville already has a bookstore. It is Borders... which is in the plaza across the street from the mall.
Kaey Brey December 11, 2011 at 02:28 PM
Trader Joes or Whole Foods.

Am editing my previous comment about what should go into the space. After writing the comment, I read an article that Giant Eagle will have the lease on the current property even after they would relocate. It would seem doubtful that they would want to rent the property to a health food store, which would be in direct competition with them. So - we still need a book store!!! Christmas shopping doesn't seem complete without a stop at Border's for books or other items they carried for the holidays. Or for purchasing books all year long. It's a drive to Montrose or Crocker Park to a book store - surely Strongsville can support a book store since I believe we're the second or third busiest Library in Cuyahoga County.

Unfortunately, Borders in the Panera plaza went out of business many weeks ago when their stores nationwide closed.
Debbie Palmer December 11, 2011 at 09:20 PM
I agree, Elaine. I heard the Strongsville Borders performed well -- it only closed because the rest of the chain went under. Maybe a Barnes & Noble?
Judy Trunzo December 12, 2011 at 06:10 PM
Barnes and Noble

Strongsville needs the following: Whole Foods Market; 1/2 priced bookstore; the exchange; TRU; Pet Smart; IKEA. Take the best of Rocky River; Westlake; Legacy Village; etc., and recreate Strongsville! I already spoke with the owner of Nature's Bin, they'll expand where they currently reside, but never come to Strongsville. We really need to attract these kinds of businesses for our city growth.
