2 Panhandlers and a Pickpocket: Police Blotter

The following information was provided by the Strongsville Police Department

Witnesses reported two panhandling incidents, although the suspects denied asking for money in both cases.

On June 25, a man allegedly stood outside BW3 asking for money to feed his children. The man, who was there with two girls, told police he didn't ask for money and was catching the next bus.

Two days later, three young women were allegedly hitting up customers at a Pearl Road plaza for money, but the girls said they only trying to get change for a $20 for the bus.

They said they were taking a bus all the way to California.

Accidental Claim?

A Beechwood Lane man got a phone call from an insurance company, telling him his Corvette had been in an accident.

That's funny -- the car was in storage, with not a scratch on it. And the owners were out of town on the day of the alleged accident.

Police verified that the car was not damaged. A report said it appeared it may have been a mistake rather than identity theft.

Pickpocketing

An anonymous caller said someone reached into a woman's purse at Panera and stole her wallet, then left.

The caller said the victim probably did not know about the theft.

Police checked the area for the suspects' vehicle, but couldn't find it. The victim, when asked, was not sure if anything was missing, but said her driver's license might be gone.

Storm Woes

The thunderstorm that rolled through about 9 p.m. June 25 kept police hopping for a few hours.

A tree fell on Pearl Road about 9:20 p.m., landing across some live power lines. Southbound Pearl was closed until CEI could arrive.

Vehicles got stuck in water on Albion Road at Shagbark Trail, on Creekside Drive and on Pebble Brook Lane, reports said.

Counselors at Camp Cheerful reported the river was flooding, but police couldn't get close because the access road was covered in water.

Injured Fox

A Hickory Branch resident reported a baby fox lying in a driveway with a badly injured leg June 27.

The fox was gone when police arrived.

Stolen Alcohol

Someone stole three six-packs of beer, a bottle of whiskey and a gallon of wine from a refrigerator in a Webster Road garage.

The resident noticed the items missing June 27. He said he might have accidentally left his garage door open a few nights earlier.

Hit-Skip

Someone took out a mailbox on Hunt Road sometime after 10 a.m. June 24.

Police said the vehicle probably suffered front end damage.
