Couple Charged with Stealing $9,000 Necklace are No-Shows in Court

Husband-wife team indicted for grand theft

The husband and wife charged with from failed to appear at their arraignment Monday.

Sean and Sarah O'Connor were indicted on a grand theft charge for allegedly running from Macy's at with the necklace May 5.

They were to appear in Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court Monday, but did not show up for their arraignment.

Police, who were able to identify the suspects after releasing a videotape of the theft, said the couple spent 90 minutes hanging around the jewelry counter at Macy's, telling the clerk they were looking for a Mother's Day gift.

The woman finally walked outside and the man asked to see a ruby and diamond necklace. When the sales associate took it out of the case, he grabbed it and ran, the video shows.

Strongsville police recovered the necklace at a pawn shop in Avon, where the couple admitted to selling it for $500.

At the time the pair was identified by Strongsville police, they were in custody in Richmond Heights for theft. They posted bail on that charge, then posted it again for the Strongsville charge.

A warrant for contempt of court has been issued. The couple, who said they had no permanent address, reportedly told police they are stealing to support a heroin habit.
