Court Sides with City, Police in Federal Lawsuit

Woman claimed officers used excessive force in removing her from home

A jury has ruled in favor of the city and two police officers in a federal lawsuit filed by a Strongsville woman over an incident in her home two years ago.

Diane Ferreri maintained officers Mike Guminey and Ron Stolz used excessive force when they removed her from her house for an evaluation May 5, 2009.

The force caused "permanent and debilitating physical injury, pain, suffering, emotional distress, public humiliation and embarrassment," said the lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court.

But a jury issued a verdit "exonerating our police officers," Assistant Law Director Dan Kolick said. 

"They ruled the police did not use excessive force," Kolick said. "They did nothing wrong."
