Daycare Center Comes Under Scrutiny After Kids Left Alone

The following information was provided by the Strongsville Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

A Pearl Road daycare center is under investigation after seven children 10 and younger were dropped off without supervision at the Ehrnfelt Recreation Center.

An employee reported Aug. 8 that it was the second day in a row a woman dropped off the seven kids and left.

Detective Lt. John Janowski said police discovered the woman had taken four other children to the Strongsville Library, and her husband had four other kids at the nearby playground.

They operate the New Western Enrichment Center. The children told authorities they know the woman only as "Teacher."

The parents of all 15 kids were called to pick up their children.

Janowski said the case has been referred to the city prosecutor for possible charges, including child endangering.

In addition, he said it appears New Western may not have all the proper permits to run a daycare center.

The Department of Jobs and Family Services has also been identified, he said.
