Details on Walmart Shooting Not Yet Released

Chief says he can't talk about incident till suspects are charged

Details about the drug incident that led to the Saturday afternoon are still not being released.

Police Chief Charles Goss said Monday afternoon he cannot yet discuss what led up to the shooting because the suspects in the case have not yet been charged.

"Unfortunately, we have to wait till we get a response from the (Cuyahoga County) prosecutor's office," he said. "Until the suspects are charged, we can't release any more information."

Charges are likely to be filed Tuesday, he said.

About 2:45 p.m. Saturday, a Strongsville police officer shot and wounded a suspect in his car during a drug investigation. Lawrence McKissic, 27, of Cleveland, is recovering from the injuries.

A second suspect, Lorenzo Dobyne, 24, of Middleburg Heights, remains in police custody.

Goss said Strongsville police were "involved in the investigation of a drug transaction" when McKissic "refused to comply with several verbal commands from a police officer. Instead, he reached inside of his jacket."

Goss has already said the officer was justified in firing his gun.

Not yet known is whether police were called to the scene or if they were involved in an undercover drug buy. Several Cleveland police officers were also at the scene.

A witness who was in the  parking lot at the time and heard the gunfire said the suspect was shot in the lower face and the leg.

A crowd that was gathered near the scene in the Walmart parking lot Saturday afternoon counted shell casings on the ground and pointed out nine bullet holes in the windshield of the suspects' car.
