Driver's 'Rant' Doesn't Stand Up in Court

A motorist who complained to a newspaper columnist about a lack of speed limit signs on Royalton Road failed to get his citation overturned.

The driver, who was featured last month in The Plain Dealer's Road Rant column, was convicted of the speeding offense Friday in Berea Municipal Court, according to Police Chief Charles Goss.

"It turned out he'd gotten a speeding ticket in about the same place not that long ago, so he did know what the speed limit was," Goss said.

The driver's complaint sparked concern among Strongville officials, who asked the police department to check out whether the corridor is adequately marked.

The motorist alleged he got off I-71 on Royalton Road and headed east toward West 130th Street, did not see a speed limit sign and assumed it was 45 mph.

Goss said there are three signs with the 35 mph speed limit between I-71 and West 130th Street.
