Elderly Man Scammed by Imposter Grandson; Attempted Burglary: Police Blotter

The following was obtained from Strongsville police reports dated Feb. 22-23. It does not indicate convictions.

'Grandson Scam' claims a victim

A Strongsville man fell for a popular scam Feb. 22 when he believed the male who called him was his grandson and wired him $1,800.

The resident caught on when the caller tried to get him to send another $875.

In the scam, a caller pretending to be a person's grandson claims to be in trouble, usually out of state or out of the country, and asks a grandparent to wire cash.

Strongsville police told the resident to report it to the Ohio Attorney General's office.

Attempted burglary

A Drake Road resident reported two people were in their backyard, trying to get into the back window about 12:10 p.m. Feb. 22.

The suspects fled toward Echo Drive.

Police are investigating the incident.

Shots fired?

A Bernice Drive resident said he heard 15 gunshots about 2 p.m. Feb. 23.

An officer checked and found the area quiet.

Another resident who was outside also heard the shots, but said they were coming from Lorain County.
